A story of survival and sarcasm

When I became a mother on February 13, 2012, I never anticipated feeling anything other than love and joy (sprinkled with a bit of exhaustion, perhaps). Turns out, my experience was the exact opposite.

After a devastatingly difficult year of being home with my daughter, Emily, I was officially diagnosed with Postpartum Depression. At the time, I told very few people...shame and embarrassment were the name of the game.

Flash forward to several years (and many therapy sessions) later, I was given the opportunity to  open up and share my experiences here,. My goal was to educate others on the often camouflaged signs and symptoms of PPD. The feedback was overwhelming. Mothers, fathers, friends, strangers and family all came out of the woodwork to say that they, or someone they knew, had been through the exact same thing. All it took was speaking up to finally discover that I had never truly been alone.

And so.... this blog. A place where we can all discuss the topics that no one feels comfortable opening up about. Let's talk. Let's share. Let's take away the taboos and shame, and instead create a community.

Love to all.
